ACMI Lease

Airbus A340 ACMI Lease & Wet Lease Capacity

Current A340 ACMI Availability

Need Airbus A340 capacity for seasonal demand, AOG cover, a new long-haul route or an aircraft delivery delay?

ACMI Lease helps airlines, operators, brokers and tour operators identify suitable A340 ACMI and wet lease options for their proposed programmes.

Contact us to confirm current aircraft options. The following existing A340 listings are provided for reference; aircraft details and availability must be reconfirmed for your required dates:

A340 ACMI availability depends on the required dates, operating base, route network, passenger configuration, monthly block hours and regulatory approvals. Send us your schedule and operational requirements so we can assess suitable capacity.

An aircraft is considered available only after confirmation by ACMI Lease and, where applicable, by the responsible AOC holder for the proposed programme.

The Airbus A340 is a four-engine, twin-aisle passenger aircraft family designed for long-haul operations. An Airbus A340 ACMI lease can provide additional or replacement capacity with the aircraft, crew, maintenance and insurance arranged as an agreed package.

The A340-300 and A340-600 differ in airframe dimensions, engine family and cabin capacity. Selecting an aircraft requires a review of the individual specification, maintenance status, route requirements and operating arrangements. A model comparison or range map does not establish that a particular aircraft is available.

Airbus A340 Variants and Engine Configurations

A340-300 with CFM56-5C Engines

The A340-300 uses four CFM International CFM56-5C engines. Its shorter fuselage distinguishes it from the A340-600. The approved cabin layout, installed engine version and certified operating weights must be checked for the individual aircraft.

A340-600 with Rolls-Royce Trent 500 Engines

The A340-600 uses four Rolls-Royce Trent 500 engines and has a longer fuselage and wider wingspan than the A340-300. An A340-600 ACMI or wet lease may be considered where the proposed passenger programme requires a larger cabin, subject to the actual seating configuration and route assessment.

Why the Aircraft Configuration Matters

The A340 variant, engine family and cabin layout affect aircraft selection and programme planning. The responsible AOC holder must assess the aircraft and proposed operation, including:

  • Approved seating layout, passenger numbers and baggage requirements
  • Aircraft and engine maintenance status and technical support
  • Crew qualifications, availability and operating-base arrangements
  • Payload, fuel planning and performance for the proposed sectors
  • Runway, taxiway, stand and ground-handling compatibility
  • Traffic rights, operating permissions and applicable regulatory approvals

What Is Included in an A340 ACMI Lease?

ACMI stands for Aircraft, Crew, Maintenance and Insurance. A typical A340 ACMI package includes:

  • Aircraft: The agreed Airbus A340, suitable for the approved programme.
  • Crew: The required flight and cabin crew, as specified in the agreement.
  • Maintenance: The agreed maintenance and technical support for the aircraft.
  • Insurance: The aircraft and operational insurance specified in the contract.

Fuel, airport handling, navigation charges, catering, crew accommodation and other operating costs are allocated according to the agreement. Each proposal should clearly state the included services, exclusions and responsibilities of each party.

How Is an A340 Wet-Lease Programme Operated?

Under a standard wet lease, the supplying AOC holder operates the aircraft under its own Air Operator Certificate and retains the applicable operational responsibilities. The lessee’s schedule, destinations and capacity requirements are assessed within the agreed contractual and regulatory framework.

The operating structure, aircraft suitability, traffic rights and required approvals must be confirmed for the proposed programme before operations begin.

How ACMI Lease Provides A340 Capacity

ACMI Lease works through several commercial and operational structures. Depending on the programme, a solution may involve an aircraft owned or managed by ACMI Lease, an aircraft dry-leased or placed with a partner AOC holder, or an aircraft acquired or financed with our involvement.

We may also assess capacity from an established partner fleet or a suitable third-party aircraft. This allows us to consider aircraft access, the operating platform, technical requirements and commercial terms together.

Where a partner AOC holder will operate the aircraft, that operator must confirm its operational suitability and ability to perform the programme. Each proposal remains subject to aircraft confirmation, operational feasibility, regulatory approvals and agreed commercial terms.

When Can an A340 Wet Lease Be Useful?

An Airbus A340 wet lease may be considered for:

  • Seasonal or peak-period long-haul passenger demand
  • Temporary replacement of a widebody aircraft undergoing maintenance
  • AOG cover, subject to practical lead time and approvals
  • Delayed aircraft deliveries or fleet transitions
  • New-route launches or additional frequencies
  • Defined passenger programmes requiring widebody capacity

Suitability depends on the required cabin, sector lengths, operating costs and airport requirements. The aircraft should be assessed against the proposed schedule rather than selected on seating capacity or reference range alone.

A340 ACMI Lease or Dry Lease?

An ACMI lease combines the aircraft with crew, maintenance and insurance. A dry lease normally supplies the aircraft without those operational services, with the dry lessee responsible for arranging the operating organisation and support.

ACMI may suit a defined or temporary capacity requirement. A dry lease may suit an operator seeking longer-term fleet control with the necessary approvals, personnel and infrastructure. Read our guide to wet lease and dry lease arrangements.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is an A340 shown on this page guaranteed to be available?

No. An aircraft is considered available only after confirmation by ACMI Lease and, where applicable, by the responsible AOC holder for the proposed programme. Existing listings must be reconfirmed for your required dates.

Can an A340 ACMI lease provide short-term capacity?

A short-term or seasonal programme may be considered. Practical lead time depends on the aircraft’s location, maintenance status, crew readiness, positioning and required approvals.

Do all A340-600 aircraft have the same seating capacity?

No. Seating depends on the individual aircraft’s approved cabin layout and installed interior. Specify the passenger capacity and cabin arrangement you need so the proposed aircraft can be checked against your requirements.

Can the A340 range map confirm a nonstop route?

No. The map shows an indicative reference radius. The responsible operator must assess the actual aircraft, payload, fuel requirements, routing, weather and airport conditions before confirming a route.

Can I enquire about an Airbus A340 charter?

Yes. For an A340 charter, provide the route, dates, passenger numbers and service requirements. A whole-aircraft charter is assessed separately from an airline ACMI programme. See our aircraft charter flights for tour operators and groups page or our dedicated Hajj and Umrah aircraft charter page for those requirements.
